Responses to my 'Trump' post of 10th September - 3 of 5

Here follows my response to Mr Cornish in the last post.

Sir,

Quenton Cornish's response to my column on the Biden/Trump contest suggests that he has only read what he wants to read.

In fact, he ignores the thrust of my original argument which carefully evaluates both candidates' policies, without focussing on their respective characters.

Allow me to come to Mr Cornish's assistance. For me, as a freedom-loving Libertarian, it’s not about Trump the man, but about the Trump Administration and what it has achieved and may yet achieve during a second term. Indeed, I have no particular liking for the man and could agree with many of the descriptions Mr Cornish uses in his correspondence.

But ad hominem comments are the really stuff of the playground. What is needed is grown-up analysis based upon first principles.

The Trump Administration’s foreign policy successes are increasingly impressive. I would add to the examples I used, the subsequent possibility that the Saudis may soon follow the UAE into a deal with Israel, and that Serbia and Kosovo have agreed a trade deal between themselves - with the active involvement of the USA.

Leftists like Mr Cornish really must stop playing the man as opposed to the ball. A more objective and nuanced approach may make the world less confusing for them.

Stephen Britt
